Simeon Earl Hadley, son of Alphonso and Dora Hadley, was born near New Virginia in Warren county, Iowa on May 31, 1890, the first-born of a family of seven children. He passed from this life on November 20, 1951 at the age of 61 years, five months and 20 days. His boyhood days were spent on a farm near New Virginia where he attended country school. In 1907 the family moved to Wyoming where they remained for two years. Upon their return to Iowa they lived in Indianola where Earl graduated from high school.
In January of 1913 he was united in marriage to Arbie Clark who passed away in June, 1929. To this union three daughters were born: Margaret, Maxine, and Eleanor. On February 24, 1932 he was married to Fae Bland of Indianola. A son, Leland Earl, was born to them on August 11, 1939. The family moved from Warren county to Earlham, Iowa in 1941 and about five years ago purchased the home in Dexter where they were living at the time of his death.
Earl's chosen occupation was that of a farmer and, with the exception of a few very brief periods of time, his life was devoted to that calling. He was industrious and energetic and always gave himself whole-heartedly to any task that came to hand, whether he was working for himself or for some one else.
He loved his home and took delight in making it an attractive place, with well kept lawn and flowers and trees. He possessed a happy and kindly disposition and made many friends wherever he lived.
Earl was a birthright member of the Friends church and had maintained that membership throughout his life. At the time of his death he was a member of the Bear Creek meeting of Friends and of the Athenian Sunday School class.
His sudden death as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage came as a very great shock to his family and friends. Besides his wife, Fae, and son, Leland of Dexter, he leaves to mourn his loss his three daughters; Margaret Harvey of Indianola, Iowa; Maxine Carter of Marathon, Iowa; Eleanor Burton of Cole Camp, Missouri, and nine grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother, Dora Strawn Hadley of Indianola; two brothers, Glenn of Indianola; and Harold of Monrovia, California; and three sisters, Agnes Tomlinson of Indianola; Vera Ferguson of Dayton, Iowa; and Lela Howe of Indianola. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jehu, in March of 1947.
Funeral services were conducted at the Bear Creek church in charge of Rev. Lawrence Sams, assisted by Rev. Clyde King, pastor of the Methodist church at Dexter. Interment was in the Bear Creek cemetery.
