Compton, son of Elis and Anna Jane Compton, was born January 3rd, 1867, and was called to his reward, after a brief illness, on September 22nd, 1951 at the age of 84 years, eight months and 19 days. He was a birthright member of the Bear Creek Friends church, was reared in a christian home, and acquired his education in the common schools.

He was a good farmer and lived most of his life on the farm where he was born. He enjoyed his country home life and its activities, and was always interested in church work and the better things of life.

After leaving the farm in 1942, they moved to Stuart, Iowa and the same year death came to his
companion. He continued to live in the comfortable little home there, surrounded by beautiful flowers, and well kept lawn and garden.

The last few weeks he had been at home with his son, Ivan and family. He attended the church service with them the Sunday before his death.

He was of a quiet disposition, a good neighbor, always taking a great interest in his home and family.

Elmer belonged to a family of seven children. Three sisters, Ruth Pickett, Emma Crowl, and Eva Boggess having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing three sisters, Olive Bennett of Adel; Sydna Day of Earlham, and Harriett Stubbs of Mason City, four children, Mrs. Arlie Fritz of Perry, Iowa; Lester of Stuart, Iowa; Mrs. Peter Thompson of Ingleside, Nebraska and Ivan of Earlham, also eleven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, nieces and nephews, two aunts, Emma Barnett of Whittier, California, and Abbie Cook, of Earlham, besides a wide circle of friends.
