Our beloved sister in the Lord, Mrs. Minnie Ettie Hamblin, was layed to rest in the Kivett cemetery southwest of Winterset last Friday afternoon, April 20th. The greatest comfort comes from the fact that she was a consecrated Christian, faithful in the Lord's Day services, and was prepared to meet the Master. Her life was exemplary to all, for she walked close to God.
Mrs. Hamblin was born in the state of Iowa, Madison county, Webster township, on August 5, 1877, the daughter of Stephen and Nancy Pope, and passed from this life on Wednesday evening, April 18, 1951, at the age of 73 years, eight months, and 13 days, after a prolonged illness of 15 weeks. She was removed from the Dexter Clinic much improved to the Shoemaker Rest Room in Winterset, but suffered a relapse and was taken to the Winterset hospital on April 1st.
As a young girl, she united with the Christian church just west of Winterset, and later became a member of the Church of Christ at Winterset. At the time of her passing from this earthly life, she was a member in excellent standing of the Church of Christ at Earlham, Iowa.
On March 11, 1896, she was united in marriage with William Sawyers. After his decease, on February 27, 1906, she married Tom Hamblin. She is survived by her son, George Sawyers, by her first marriage, and Zola Douglas, her daughter by the second marriage, her sister, Mae Sawyers, her brother, John Pope, as well as six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20th at the Richard's Funeral Home in Winterset. Miss Margaret Gonseth and Miss Sherry Price sang a vocal duet, "Ivory Palaces." Services were conducted by Richard Hazeltine, minister of the Earlham Church of Christ, assisted by Mr. Hanson, minister of the Winterset Church of Christ.
