Wednesday, April 3, 1963EARL SIMPSON, Farmer Killed In Tractor Upset
Earl Simpson, 62, of Monroe township, was instantly killed last Friday morning when the tractor he was operating overturned.
Simpson was discing a stalk field when the fatal accident occurred, and was on a sloping area of the field. The tractor rolled completely over him, but crushed him as it rolled. Investigating officials said he was probably killed instantly.
The accident occurred on the Willa-Ray ranch east of Macksburg, where Donald Decker is the manager, shortly after 10 a.m. From the house, Decker saw the tractor upside down in the field, and when he went there found Simpson dead nearby.
This is the first fatal farm accident of the new spring season in Madison county, and comes just as the spring work is getting underway.
Mr. Simpson was born Feb. 23, 1901, in Walnut township, a son of Elias and Hannah Johnson Simpson. His early life was spent in that township
He was married in December, 1926, to Hattie Cornelison. For many years he was employed as a road maintenance man by Madison county, until his retirement about two years ago. His home in recent years had been on a farm in Monroe township
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Betty Lou; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Wight and Mrs. Guy Handley; and a brother, Charles Simpson, all of Winterset.
Funeral services were held from the Watts-Soll Funeral home in Lorimor, conducted by the Rev. Walter Williams. Burial was made in the Lorimor cemetery.
