Services for Mabel H. Smith, 97, Winterset, who died Dec. 8, 1987, at the Care Center North where she resided, were held Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Webster officiating. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery.
Born in Madison County on March 20, 1890, she was the daughter of Thomas and Clara Ray Allen. She was married to Lester Smith on Feb. 4, 1908 at Peru. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Charles Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Smith of St. Charles; daughters, Esther Read of Winterset; Irma Scrivner of St. Charles; and Edna Honnold of Lorimor; 20 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons, seven grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, four brothers and two sisters.
