OBITUARY

George Washington Wright, second son of George and Mary Ann Wright was born March 18, 1862 in Dallas county, and departed this life November 30, 1950 at the Madison county memorial hospital in Winterset, being 87 years, seven months and 12 days old at the time of his death.

When but a small child he was bereft of his father who was killed in the Civil War.

His mother was married to Marion Mark and they moved from Dallas county to a farm southwest of DeSoto, where they lived for many years.

Here George grew to manhood, working on the farm with his stepfather until he went to Audubon county to prepare a home for his prospective bride.

He was married to Mary Farnham September 18, 1884. They lived for six years on a farm near Ross, Audubon county.

To this union three sons were born, Marion and Clarence surviving but the third dying in infancy.

About this time they felt the responsibility of parenthood, and while they had both been church attendants, they now accepted their obligation to Christ and the church and united together with the Methodist church near Ross in Audubon county, transferring their membership to Fairview in 1901.

Mr. Wright has been very much of a "Home Body" in his declining years, making his home with his eldest son, who with his wife did much for his care and comfort.

He was a good neighbor, a good citizen, and esteemed by all who knew him--always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.

He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons and their wives, two grandsons and their wives, one half brother and his son, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Fairview church, Saturday afternoon, December 2nd conducted by the pastor, Rev. Crouse and the body was laid to rest in the family lot by the side of his wife, who passed away thirty-three years ago.

(Burial in Fairview cemetery)
