Bee Sting Fatal To ALFREDA SMITH

An 80-year-old Winterset woman, Alfreda Jeanette Smith, wife of Asa Smith of 224 East Benton, died last Friday evening, October 1, 1976, following an acute allergic reaction to a bee sting while working outside her home.

Mrs. Smith collapsed in her yard, apparently moments after being stung, and was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital where she died, according to Dr. Earl Rozeboom, M.D.

Mrs. Smith was born in Powersville, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Keyport. She was born February 18, 1896 and was a resident of Madison County for 53 years.

The marriage of Alfreda Smith and Asa Smith took place February 18, 1923, in Packard Iowa. She was a school teacher for several years in both Madison and Butler counties, president of the W.C.T.U., a church school teacher for 50 years and affiliated with the Reorganized church of Jesue Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, Asa, and one sister, Maud Jackman of Clarksville, Iowa.

Funeral services for Alfreda Smith were conducted Monday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home, Rev. Leland Shipley of Norwalk, officiating. Burial was made at the Winterset cemetery.
