RALPH C. SMITH Dies At Creston

Ralph C. Smith of Creston died Saturday, May 19, 1962, at Greater Community hospital there, after several months of failing health. He was 67 years of age.

Mr. Smith was a native of Madison county, where he was born April 27, 1895, a son of Charles and Etna Phillips Smith. He was a veteran of the U. S. army in World War I, and was employed as a railroad shopman in Creston for many years.

He was married March 7, 1923, to Estella Nelson, who survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Katherine Joyce of Creston; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ben Harrell of Winterset.

Funeral services and burial were held Tuesday at Creston.

Ralph C. Smith Dies Here at 67

Ralph C. (Buck) Smith, 67, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 2:20 p.m. Saturday. His death followed a seven-month illness.

Mr. Smith, whose home was at 901 north Lincoln street, had been employed as a car inspector for the Burlington railroad here for 39 years before retiring last October. He was raised near Winterset but had lived in Creston since 1923.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian church here. Rev. John Moffitt will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. His body is at Coens Home for Funerals but will be taken to the church to lie in state before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services. His family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Ralph C. Smith was born at Winterset, April 27, 1895. He was the son of Charles and Etna Phillips Smith. He was married at Greenfield, March 7, 1923, to Stella M. Nelson.

He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Kathryn) Blazek of Creston; two grandchildren, Craig and Lana Blazek; and a sister, Mrs. Ben Harrell of Winterset.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Burlington Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a veteran of army service in World war I from Sept. 18, 1917 to June 8, 1919. He had raised Shetland ponies and was well known in show horse circles in Iowa.
