Carl Ponxs died Sunday evening, about 7 o'clock, at his home on the Bradshaw farm west of Truro, after a two weeks illness of typhoid fever. Mr. Ponxs had always been in the best of health until he contracted this dreadful malady, and no medicine seemed to help him. He died at the age of 46 years.
Mr. Ponxs was born in Winterset and has always lived in this county. Seventeen years ago, he was married to Miss Rena Gray and he has been on a farm in the Truro neighborhood for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife and three children, also one brother, of Granger, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Mercer, of Winterset.
Funeral services were held at the old Edgar home in Winterset Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Deceased was born in Winterset, Iowa in 1977 (sic) on the 2st day of April. On November 5, 1906 he was united in marriage to Irene Grey, both of Winterset. To this union there were three children born – June, Eugene, and Carl Ernest.
Deceased passed away on the 29th of July, 1923 at 7 p. m. at his home at Truro, Iowa. He was taken to his sister’s home, Mrs. Minnie Mercers at Winterset from which place he was laid to rest on Aug. 1, 1923 in the Winterset cemetery.
He leaves his wife and three children and one brother, Gus Ponxs of Granger, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Mercer of Winterset, and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
________________________Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published, the Iowa Death Certificate shows his birth to be April 21st. Of the two versions of his sister's surname, "Mercer" is correct. Proper spelling of his wife's maiden name is "Gray" per her parents gravestone.
