EDWARD CAIN DIED LAST WEDNESDAY
Services Held Last Friday for Winterset Business Man
Charles Edward Cain, a prominent Madison county business man for many years, died last Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines after an extended illness. He had undergone two major operations in recent weeks.
Mr. Cain was 64 years of age. He was a life-long resident of the county, having been born here Sept. 4, 1885, a son of John and Amanda Cain. He moved into Winterset in 1915, and for the past 35 years had been engaged in the automotive business nearly all of the time. For many years he was a member of the partnership of Orris and Cain which operated the Palace garage, and since the death of E. E. Orris had taken over all of that firm, which was a pioneer automotive business in Winterset.
Mr. Cain was a member of the Winterset Methodist church, and was active in affairs of this community. He was a veteran of the first World war, and was a member of Green-Rogers post of the American Legion. He was affiliated with the Masonic lodge, and the Winterset Lions club, and was a director of the Iowa Automobile Dealers' association.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; and his son, Russell, who recently entered partnership with his father. He also leaves five sisters, Mrs. L. D. Weeks and Mrs. Gale Kirkland of this community, and Mrs. Frank Coulton, Mrs. Dora Thomas, and Elizabeth Cain; and one brother, William Cain.
Funeral services were held here last Friday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
