Melvina Smith was born in Marion county, Iowa, November 29, 1868, the daughter of Reuben & Sarah Kingery and died at her home in Monroe township, Madison county, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1916, aged 49 years, 2 months and 1 day.
On Aug. 27, 1884, she was united in marriage to Elisha J. Smith. To this union were born two children: Charles and Delia M., both of Madison county. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband and two children, three sisters: Mrs. George. Berry and Mrs. Lewis Berry of Monroe township, Mrs. Marion Alexander of Winterset, one brother, Chas. Kingery of Monroe township, and three half brothers, Ira Kingery of Monroe township and Amos and R. G. Kingery of Guthrie county. There are also six grandchildren and a host of friends.
Thre sisters, Mrs. Scott Berry, Mrs. Tom Kingery and Miss Belle Kingery have preceeded her in death by many years.
She was converted early in life and united with the Christian church and continued in that church until her death.
