Joe Rankin, Waukee

Joe Rankin, 68, of Waukee, died of a kidney ailment June 9, 1996 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were June 11 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

He was born in Moberly, Mo., on Oct. 12, 1927 to Claire and Pearle (Duff) Rankin. He married Eleanor Schoonover on March 23, 1952 at Adel. He was retired after 25 years as a Polk county Deputy Sheriff. He was raised in Winterset and moved to Des Moines in 1952 and lived in Waukee for the past 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife of Waukee; two son, Gary Rankin of Davenport and David Rankin and wife Jannette of Linden; one sister, Mary Lee Hindman of Winterset; and 9 grandchildren.
