Services for Benjamin Clarence "Ben" Ragan, 93, Winterset, who died Feb. 24 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Monday, Feb. 27 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Zanker officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born Mar. 14, 1890 in Madison County, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Zella Frances Darnall Ragan. He spent his lifetime in Madison County and engaged in farming. He retired in 1970.
Mr. Ragan was a member of the Christian church and the IOOF Lodge. He was married to Ora Ethel Patton in 1914. She preceded him in death. He was married to Dola Vesta Hircock in 1930, who also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Delbert Ragan of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Virginia Kirk of Lorimor and Doris Jackson of Winterset; a step-daughter Sarah Gunter of Winterset; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sons, a stepson, and a daughter.
