JOHN E. BLACK DIES AT HAMBURG

Funeral Services Held Here Tuesday; Burial in Wight Cemetery

John B. Black, a former resident of Winterset, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at Community hospital in Hamburg, at the age of 75 years. He had been a patient at the hospital since Nov. 4.

Mr. Black was born near Norwalk on Aug. 17, 1891 (sic), a son of John Wesley and Aura Snyder Black. In childhood he moved with his parents to Nebraska, where his early life was spent in Sheridan and Dixon counties.

He was married in 1916 to Hazel Fern Young of Winterset. They made their home at Allen, Nebraska, where they engaged in farming. When his health failed in 1942 they came to Winterset to make their home with his brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. George Sawyers.

His wife died in 1953, and he moved to Shenandoah to be near a son there, later transferring to a rest home at Tabor.

He was a charter member of the First Lutheran church of Allen, Nebr., and was active in community affairs there.

Surviving are his son, Robert B. Black of Shenandoah; three grandsons; and three sisters, Mrs. Clay Wheeler of Allen, Nebraska, Mrs. Mabel Clough of Scott's Bluff, Nebr., and Mrs. Jim McClain of South Sioux City, Nebr.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home in the Wight cemetery west of Winterset.
