Former Prominent Citizen Died Oct. 23 at Home in Missouri
Elmer K. Cole, formerly a well known citizen of Winterset where he was prominent in business and community affairs, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Centralia, Mo., where he had made his home in recent years. He was 79 years of age, and had been in failing health the past two years.
Mr. Cole was born in Madison county May 10, 1877, a son of John and Flora Kester Cole. His early life was spent in Scott township, and as a young man he engaged in farming. He moved to Winterset in 1896. In 1900 he became interested in the old Scarless Linament company of Winterset, and in 1913 was associated in the Munson Manufacturing company. In later years he served a term as mayor of Winterset.
He was married in 1903 to Alberta Veneman. They made their home in Winterset until about 20 years ago, when they moved to Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, of Centralia; a son, Donald Cole of Dallas, Tex.; and two daughters, Mrs. Arvid Lundgren and Elizabeth Cole, both of Des Moines. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Lenore Williamson of near Fort Dodge, and Beth, who resides with the family in Centralia.
Brief funeral services were held last Saturday from the Anderson home for funerals in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kelly of Centralia. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
