Son of Swiss Immigrants Had Spent Entire Life in Madison County
Fred A. Schutz, life-long resident of Madison county, died Oct. 7, at a nursing home in St. Charles. He had received severe leg burns in an accident last May, and was taken to the Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset, where he was a patient until Aug. 31, when he was taken to the nursing home.
Mr. Schutz was 76 years of age at his death. He was born May 6, 1880, on the farm near Macksburg where his parents settled when he came here from Switzerland. He was a son of Andrew and Ellen Hatter Schutz. His life was spent on the farm where he was born.
He became a member of the West Branch church at an early age, later transferring to the Macksburg Methodist church. He was a graduate of the Macksburg high school, and attended Des Moines university. He was a charter member of the Macksburg I.O.O.F. lodge, and a long time member of the Farm Bureau.
He leaves a sister, Mrs. Alice Eivins of Macksburg, and a brother, Elmer Schutz of Lincoln, Nebr.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9 from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Parrott. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
