EARLE L. POWELL DIES AT 39 YEARS

Young Farmer Had Lived Near Winterset About Seven Years

Earle L. Powell, who had farmed northeast of Winterset since 1956, died Friday, May 3 at Veteran's hospital in Des Moines. He was 39 years of age.

Mr. Powell was a native of Nebraska, where he was born Jan. 22, 1924, a son of Thomas J. and Myrtle Powell. His early life was spent in the Dexter and Redfield areas and he graduated from Panora High School.

During World War II he served for two years in the U. S. navy, spending part of that service aboard the U. S.Aircraft Carrier Boxer.

He was married June 6, 1954 to Joan Eisle. Two years later they purchased and moved to the farm northeast of Winterset. He had also been employed for 13 years, by the Deco company in Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joan Powell; three sons, Alan, Steven and Terry; a daughter, Jean, by a former marriage; his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Powell of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Root of Prole and Mrs. Wilma Seigenthaler of Jefferson; and a brother, Lawrence Powell of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday from Trinity Lutheran church in Jefferson township with burial in the cemetery there.
