WILLIAM M. FORD, Obituary

William M. Ford was born in West Virginia, July 28, 1832, died August 12, 1895, aged 63 years and 14 days. He moved to Indiana in 1837 and married Diana Stickler in December 1854, who preceded him to the glory land. He moved to Madison county, Iowa, in 1855 where he resided until death.

He was a member of the M. E. church for thirty years. He was a charter member of the West Star church. He took an active part in its erection and has ever been a faithful member.

Brother Ford was a peacemaker, a mediator between man and man. He was often called upon to settle difficulties, as he always had the ability and power to adjust matters satisfactorily to all concerned. As a neighbor he was kind and obliging, as a husband and father, affectionate, loving and true.

He leaves four brothers and one sisters. Two brothers, Noah and George, were present at the funeral, and one son, Deane, and three daughters, Alice, Emma and Clara. They were all present but Alice, who lives in Oklahoma.

The funeral services were conducted by W. E. Smith assisted by Revs. Brock and Sawhill, in the West Star church, before a large congregation of neighbors and friends who met to pay the last respects to a brother and neighbor.

After the services at the church, the I.O.O.F. lodge, of Winterset, of which he was a member twenty-six years, took charge of the services and performed the last rites and ceremonies.

(Note: Burial was in Stringtown Cemetery)

So ends the life of a good man, but he lives in the memory of all who knew him and he has gained his eternal home. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community and the prayers of the church.
