Ralph Porter, Died Tuesday

Ralph A. Porter, a native of St. Charles, died Tuesday, August 22, 1978, at the age of 68 in Des Moines at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was born January 19, 1910, the son of Samuel and Sadie Leggett Porter.

Mr. Porter was a farmer. His marriage to Roberta Proudfoot took place April 10, 1934 in Osceola. The couple had six children.

Mr. Porter was educated in the St. Charles and Truro schools and was affiliated with Calvary Baptist Church of St. Charles.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta of St. Charles; four daughters, Margaret Cronk of Des Moines, Virginia McCleland of LaMesa, Calif., Sandra Chittenden of St. Charles and Pam Knapp of St.Charles; two sons, Victor C. Porter of Truro and Ralph Porter, Jr. of St. Charles; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Claude Porter of Redding, Calif., Fon Porter of St. Charles and Merrill Porter of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Ethel Bates of Winterset, Rena Goodell of Omaha, Neb., and Nellie Parker of St. Charles.

Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Ralph Porter were conducted Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. from Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles with burial at the St. Charles Cemetery

Pastor Larry Wheatcraft of St. Charles officiated.

Ralph Porter, 68, died Tuesday, August 22, in Des Moines. He was a resident of St. Charles. Friends and relatives may call the Kale Funeral Home for time and place of services.

Ralph Porter Dies August 22

Ralph Augustus Porter, 68, died at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday, August 22. Funeral services were held from Calvary Baptist church in St. Charles on Saturday, August 26, with Pastor Larry Wheatcraft officiating at the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery.

Ralph Augustus Porter was born January 19, 1910, in St. Charles, Iowa, son of Samuel Porter and Sadie Leggett Porter. He attended schools in St. Charles and Truro prior to his marriage to Roberta Proudfoot in Osceola on April 10, 1934. Six children were born to this union.

He was a framer in the St. Charles area for many years and was affiliated with the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta of St. Charles, daughter, Margaret Cronk and husband, Wilfred of Des Moines, son Victor C. Porter and wife, Annette of Truro, daughter, Virginia McCleland and husband, Robert of La Mesa, California, daughter, Sandra Chittenden and husband, Art of St. Charles, son, Ralph Porter Jr. and wife, Linda of St. Charles, daughter, Pam Knapp and husband, Timothy of St. Charles; nine grandchildren, three brothers, Rev. Claude Porter of Redding, California, Fon Porter of St. Charles and Merrill Porter of Omaha, and three sisters, Ethel Bates of Winterset, Reno Goodell of Omaha and Nellie Porter of St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
