MAXINE FREY, Winterset

Maxine Frey, 86, of Winterset, passed away Thursday at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Maxine was born in Bussey, Iowa, and raised around the Bussey and Colfax area. After her marriage to Richard Frey on June 11, 1948, she moved to Winterset and lived there the remainder of her life. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, Sunshine Garden Club, TOPS, Farm Bureau, DAR (20-year member), and was a former 4-H leader. She was a homemaker and an excellent pie maker — having won several pie contests.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Richard C. Frey of Winterset; two daughters, Cathy (Paul) Bruett of Winterset and Connie (Terry) Leinen of Des Moines; a brother, John Paul Jones of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Faith Cripps of Palm Springs, Calif.; grandchildren, Jayne (John) Stark, Joe Leinen, Judy Leinen, Justine Leinen, and Tim Bruett; and great-grandchildren, Ean Stark and Evan Stark. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Harriett Jones; a brother, Emil Jones; twin brother, Max Jones; and a sister, Beryl DeReus.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
