Arthur Iiams, the youngest son of Michael and Calista Iiams, was born Feb. 12, 1874 in Madison county, near Peru, Iowa. He was one of twelve children, nine of whom preceded him in death.

His parents were pioneer settlers in Madison county, and it was there that they homesteaded the land. He passed into his rest Sept. 14, 1956 at the age of 82 years and 7 months.

He was united in marriage to Florence Kirk on April 24, 1895 in Osceola. To this union nine children were born, five boys and four girls; besides caring for his own children, he and his wife cared for two of his grandchildren when they were in need of love and care.

The Lord was good to him and his wife, and He blessed them with memorial occasions and many years of happiness. April 24, 1956 they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Being a farmer all of his life (in Madison and Clarke counties) he realized that there was one greater than man, and he wanted to do more than to tell others about Christ. He and his wife were charter members and they helped to build Madison chapel, and they have been members since that time.

He was preceded in his passing by one son, Loren Wesley, one daughter, Vella Pettit, and one grandson, Raymond Pettit.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Iiams; four sons, Everett Iiams of Lorimor; Boyd Iiams and Dale Iiams of Murray, and Nathan Iiams of Molalla, Ore.; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Thurman of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Velma Gibbons of Kress, Texas; and Mrs. Ethal Cook of Murray; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Kirk of Lorimor and Mrs. Mary Kain of Englewood, Colorado; also 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; also many friends and loved ones.

Funeral services in charge of the Watts Funeral Service of Murray were held at Madison Chapel church at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. W. W. Williams, pastor of the Murray Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery.
