MRS. MYRTLE SWITZER DIES AT 79 YEARS

Mrs. Myrtle Switzer, a long-time resident of Penn township, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the age of 79 years.

Mrs. Switzer was a native of Cherokee county, where she was born July 24, 1877, one of five children born to Frank and Dorcas Neville Langley. As a young woman she taught school in that county.

She was married to Sherman Switzer on Oct. 19, 1898, and about a year later they moved to Winterset. They lived in Winterset seven years before moving to the farm south of Dexter where the remainder of her life was spent.

The death of her husband occurred in 1949. She is survived by seven children: Harry Switzer of Dexter, Ralph Switzer of Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs. William Peters of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Clayton Bauman of Lemon Grove, Calif., Mrs. Robert Giles of Los Angeles, Lois Switzer of Des Moines, and Goldia Switzer of North Hollywood, Calif. She also leaves five grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Fleenor of Walla Walla, Wash.

Funeral services were held at the Penn Center Methodist Church on Saturday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. for Myrtle Switzer with the Rev. Paul Textor in charge. Music was provided by Mrs. Walter Heimberger and Janet Leeper accompanied by Mrs. Merle Leeper.

Casket bearers were Fred Lenocker, Kermit Creswell, James Graham, Justin Bloomquist, Kenneth Brinton, and Hazen Morford. Caring for the flowers were Mrs. Kenneth Brinton, Mrs. James Graham and Mrs. Justin Bloomquist. Roy Evans was the funeral director.

Interment was at the Penn Center cemetery.

OBITUARY

Myrtle Switzer was born July 24, 1877 and died August 15, 1956 at the age of 79 years and 22 days. She was the daughter of Frank M. and Dorcas Neville Langley. One of five children, she was born and lived the early days of her life in Cherokee county, Iowa. For a time she taught school in that county.

On October 19, 1898 she was united in marriage to Sherman Switzer. About a year later they moved to Madison county where she had lived since. The first seven years of this time she lived in or near Winterset. Since 1908 she had made her home south of Dexter.

To this marriage seven children were born, all of whom are still living. They are: Harry Switzer of Dexter, Ralph Switzer of Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs. William Peters of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Clayton Bauman of Lemon Grove, Calif., Mrs. Robert Giles of Los Angeles, Calif., Lois Switzer of Des Moines, and Goldia Switzer of North Hollywood, Calif. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Fleenor of Walla Walla, Washington.

She was devoted to her home and children and following the death of her husband in 1949 continued to live on the farm with her son.
