Lilbert Loven Pettit, 72, of Winterset died of a heart attack Sept. 3, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 6, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Darrell Sams officiating. Burial was at Clark Cemetery in Madison County (Monroe Township) with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.
Lilbert Pettit was born April 7, 1930 in Madison County to Jake and Vella (Iiams) Pettit. On Dec. 6, 1971, he married Sandra Welch in Maysville, Mo. A lifetime resident of Madison County, Lilbert farmed, drove a semi truck for several years and at one time, owned a gas station in Winterset. A United States Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of New Hope Christian Union Church of rural Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Winterset; a son, David Pettit of Winterset; three daughters, Paula J. Hannon (husband Charles) and Angel Pettit, both of Winterset and Dani Jurgens (husband Mike) of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Debra Pettit of Winterset; a brother, Sammie Pettie (wife Dorothy) of Winterset; a sister, Alta Schaffer (husband Vernon) of Davenport; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
