Graveside services for Merle Penn, 84, Des Moines, who died Sept. 15 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held at North McDonald Cemetery in Madison County Sept. 17 with the Rev. John Shaull officiating.

Born in Dallas County Jan. 15, 1902, she was the daughter of Otho and Ida Piercy Hester. She was married to Ivan F. Penn on Feb. 26, 1923 at Winterset.

She had lived in Madison County for about 20 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Marie Pryor of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son and two sisters.
