MRS. JAY JACOBS DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. Jay Jacobs, a former resident of Winterset, died Easter Sunday, April 1, at her home in Lindsay, Calif., after an extended illness with cancer.
Mrs. Jacobs was the former Wilda Clopton, daughter of Asbury and Mary Clopton, and was born in Winterset Aug. 3, 1877. She graduated from Winterset high school with the class of 1896, and taught rural school in the Elm Grove, Holliwell and Ebeneezer neighborhoods.
On July 12, 1898, she was married to Jay Jacobs, son of the Rev. Anthony Jacobs, who at that time was the pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. From Winterset she and her husband moved to Atlantic and over a period of years lived at Knoxville, Boone and Perry. In 1937 they returned to Winterset for a year and operated the Black and White cafe on the north side of the square.
They were parents of two children, Mrs. Christie Phillips who died in 1936, and Anthony Jacobs of Lindsay, Calif. In addition to the son, she leaves her husband, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 3 in Lindsay, conducted by the pastor of the Lindsay Baptist church. Burial was made in Olive cemetery there.
