Kenneth Payne, Winterset

Funeral services for Kenneth Omer Payne, 62, were held Sat., at Early Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Will Dilsaver and the Rev. Cheri Gelner officiating. Mr. Payne died of cancer in his home on September 16, 1992.

He was born on March 24, 1930, in Yale to Omer Kenneth and Olive Bernice (Wernli) Payne. He married Enolia Ardell Young on June 9, 1951. He was a farmer and lived here for 52 years. He was a member of the Madison County Fair Board, being a past chairman; was named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1965; was given the Pork Producer Award in 1985 and the Cattleman's Assoc. Award in 1991. He served on the Rolling Hills Farm Services Board for 12 years and was a committee member for the ASCS office. He was a 4-H leader and an elder at Early Chapel Christian Church. Mr. Payne was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Preceding him in death were an infant son; an infant daughter and a brother.

Surviving relatives are his parents of Earlham; his wife; a son, Kent and wife Leslie of Winterset; three daughters, Kenna Neighbors, Kristy Johnston and husband Jim, Kelly Johnston and husband Larry, all of Winterset; a brother, Truman Payne of Earlham; three sisters, Betty Warren of Carlisle, Virginia Grove of Guthrie Center, and Joan Whitmire of Aledo, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the family. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
