HAZEL PEARL DEN HERDER
Hazel Den Herder, 91, died June 28, 2003 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Des Moines, with burial at Norwalk Municipal Cemetery.
Hazel was born November 30, 1911 in Grimes to Hubert and Regina (Seibert) Freiberg. She lived in Norwalk for 43 years before moving to Ames four years ago. Hazel had worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital Medical Center for 15 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod of Des Moines, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Farm Bureau Women and Norwalk Women’s Club. She was also a Mercy School of Nursing alumnus, 4-H leader, avid gardener and staunch Democrat. Pearl enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes and loved cats.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Suzanne (Wayne E) Olson of Ames, one sister, Mildred Waltz of Winterset; one daughter-by-love, Sita Zarnegar of Ames; and one grandson-by-love, Amadeio Zarnegar of Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Den Herder in 1980, one sister, Cleo Janssen; and one brother, Henry Freiberg.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Adams Funeral Home in Ames is handling arrangements.
