Alfred Francis Anthony Covino, 75, of rural Winterset died of cancer and a stroke Jan. 29, 2003, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Memorial services were held Friday, Jan. 31, at the Patterson United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating.
Alfred Covino was born July 29, 1927, in New London, Conn., to Salvatore and Andonnette (DelPriore) Covino. On April 25, 1953, he married Anne Elizabeth Rogers in New London, Conn. He had resided in eastern Connecticut until 10 years ago, when he retired and moved to Madison County. Alfred had worked for 25 years as a technical representative for Naval Sea Support Center Atlantic, USN at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Conn. Prop to that, he had worked for the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton. He served in the Naval Submarine Service from 1945 to 1950. While working for the Navy, he was the recipient of an award for service to the Egyptian government.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Biaggio.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of rural Winterset; two sons, Alfred F. A. Covino Jr. of Marlborough, Conn., and William S. Covino of Bayonne, N.J.; three daughters, Rosemary Rheaume of Preston, Conn., Nancy Anne Bruckner of Waterford, Conn., and Allison Elizabeth Fick of Des Moines; his mother, Andonnette, of Waterford, Conn.; a sister, Mary Rabe of Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel in Clive.
