BADEN POWELL BLADES

Baden Powell Blades, 68, of Peru, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center. The body was cremated and memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home.

Baden was born in Montezuma, IA. He lived in Des Moines most of his life before moving to Peru four years ago. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving his full term and receiving an honorable discharge. He also worked for the City of Des Moines in the forestry department, Davey’s Tree Service, and retired from the Des Moines Independent Community School District after 34 years of service. He enjoyed life.

He is survived by his children, Rebecca Avaux of Dexter, Albert Lee Blades of Des Moines, Yolanda Riley of Linden, Gordon Blades of Peru, Douglas Sample of Des Moines, Heidi Moen of Saydel, Jessica Blades of Johnston; a sister, Jean McLaughlin of Springfield, OR, and a brother, Robert Blades of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Raye, Stephine Crane, Tyler Raye, Alexander Baden Blades, T. J. Moen, Bayley Sample, Austin Moen, Taylor Sample and Trey Moen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; and mother, Emily. They will be dearly missed.
