FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN MONTANA
Mrs. Florence Ely Flood, a resident of Park City, Montana for more than forty years, and a former Winterset resident, died at the Deaconess hospital, in Billings, Montana, on Friday, December 30th, at the age of 71 years. She had been in failing health since June, and a patient at the hospital, since October 24th.
Mrs. Flood, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Ely of Winterset, was born, September 14, 1884, near Winterset. She attended the local schools, and was graduated from the high school in 1904, with the first class receiving a four year course. Later she attended Iowa State Teachers college and Drake University. She taught in the rural schools of this county, and in the primary grades of Peru, Patterson and Lewis.
On September 9, 1920, she was married to Samuel T. Flood in Sheridan, Wyoming, and they located in Park City, Montana. Mr. Flood died in May 1950.
Mrs. Flood was a member of the Methodist church, where she taught a Sunday school class for many years, and was active in the womens organizations. She was also a member of the American legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Garden club. She helped found the Park City library and served as librarian for many years; she was also local correspondent for a newspaper at Laurel for more than thirty years.
A substantial memorial fund was contributed at her death, to be used for some enduring purpose, in memory of Mrs. Flood and her husband.
Immediate survivors are a sister, Miss Blanche T. Ely of Washington, D.C., a brother, Ralph D. Ely of Creston, and a niece, Mrs. Jo Ann Ely Boulter of North Miami Beach, Florida.
Funeral and burial services were held Monday, January 2nd in Park City. Miss Blanch Ely was in Park City, at the death, and for the services of her sister.
