Gale Palmer, Oklahoma

Gale Richard Palmer, 66, of Weatherford, Okla., and formerly of St. Charles, died Sept. 11, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services in Oklahoma were held today (Wednesday) at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton. Graveside services in Iowa will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at St. Charles Cemetery with Rick Payne officiating. Military rites will be performed by V.F.W. Post No. 8142, Masonic services will be conducted by St. Charles Masonic Lodge No. 815. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 16 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the family present from 7-9 p.m.

Gale Palmer was born June 23, 1938 to Glen Elwood and Rachel Bernice (Hainline) Palmer of rural Thayer. He received his education in the Thayer, Murray and Truro school systems. From 1957 to 1959, he served in the United States Army. On Sept. 16, 1961, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Tobin in St. Charles. From 1961-65, he farmed south of Truro. In 1965, he moved his family to the St. Charles area where he continued farming and also worked in the cement industry. In 1979, the family moved into St. Charles. Following the closure of Penn Dixie Industries in 1981, the family moved to Oklahoma where Gale worked for the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America in Arapaho until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clinton, Okla., Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 339 and St. Charles Masonic Lodge No. 315 of which he was Past Master of both, Guthrie Scottish Rite, India Temple Shrine, Clinton Eastern Star, Weatherford Eastern Star and past member of the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Duane Dick and Elwood Palmer.

He is survived by his wife Dixie of Weatherford, Okla.; two daughters, Cheryl Brownlee of Truro and Jennifer Payne of Thomas, Olka.; two sons, Richard Palmer of Weatherford, Okla.; and Jason Palmer of Sharon, Okla.; two sisters, Waunita Delong of Omaha, Neb., and Wanda Davidson of Murray; a brother, Glen Palmer of Omaha, Neb.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the India Temple Shrine in Oklahoma City, Okla., or Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 339 A.F. & A.M. in Clinton, Okla.

Funeral services in Oklahoma were handled by Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Okla.
