MORTUARY - Grace Myers Hamilton

Grace Myers Hamilton, daughter of Frank D. and Sarah Myers, was born in Johnson County, Iowa, March 29, 1893, and died at her home in Winterset, December 1, 1932, at the age of 39 years, 8 months and 11 days. After graduating from the Iowa City High school she studied for two years at the University of Iowa after which she attended Northwestern University, graduating from the Cumnock School of Oratory of the University. While at the University of Iowa she pledged Alpha Xi Delta sorority and at Northwestern was elected to the national honor society in Dramatics, Omega Upsilon.

She was married on December 22, 1914, to Frank S. Hamilton of Winterset, moving into their own home here in which they have spent their entire married life. Two children were born to them, one died in infancy, the other, their daughter, Beverly Jeane, now seven years of age.

She was an active, interested and dependable member of a number of organizations. She filled several offices in the Order of Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron. She had been President of P.E.O. She gave loyal support to the Campfire movement for girls and organized the Shuinala group of which she was Guardian until her failing health necessitated her passing the work to another though she retained her interest in her girls. She was a director of the Madison County Chautauqua and was often called as a substitute teacher for high school classes. She was an active and loyal member of the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, finding time in her busy life to give to her church very valuable support. Having prepared herself by special training at Des Moines, she accepted appointment as secretary to Representative Husted during the last session of the State Legislature.

Mrs. Hamilton leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mrs. M. J. Stoner and one brother, Glen Myers both of North Liberty, near Iowa City. three nephews, Robert Koser, Wendel and Donald Stoner, all of North Liberty, Iowa.
