MORTUARY

Charles Dixon Silliman was born in Pennsylvania on the 2nd of September 1850, and passed from this life on the 6th of December 1932, having come to the age of 82 years, 3 months and 4 days. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of 11 years, traveling by way of covered wagon and ox team. He was the son of J. R. and Nancy Silliman, and was the eldest of ten children, all of whom have preceded him in death except one brother, L. M. Silliman, and one sister, Appauline Silliman, both of Winterset.

He was united in marriage to Mary C. Moore, on the 2nd day of May 1878. This union was blessed with eight children, all of whom are living and all of whom are present today excpt one son, J. R. of Colibran, Colorado. The other children are W. J. of Towner, Colorado, A. E. of York, Nebraska; Mrs. Ree Schoenenberger of Crookston, Minnesota; Mrs. A. E. Pearson, Mrs. S. S. Clifton, W. C. and Lonnie of Peru. Besides these of the immediate family, there are 32 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

One grandson, Harold Silliman, aged 11 has made his home with his grandparents, since he was a baby.

Mr. Silliman was a kind and loving husband and father.

At the time of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Silliman went to live on a farm in Scott township, where Mr. Silliman had been living for two years, and this farm was their home for fifty years, or until four years ago last spring when they moved to Winterset to make their home.

The Rev. A. P. Keast conducted his funeral services, which were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon, December 9th at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
