Merritt Ogburn was born in Madison, county, Ind., Aug. 23, 1843 and passed away at his home in Lincoln township, Madison County, Iowa, on March 12, 1925, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 20 days.
He moved with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, in 1854, where they settled on a farm near Peru.
He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Eldridge, Oct. 28, 1875. To this union were born three children, one dying in infancy.
The surviving children are Mrs. S. S. Powell of Winterset, and Mrs. Elva Chaffee of Yakima, Wash.
He united with the Methodist church of Peru in 1891 and lived a true Christian life since. His life of faith and devotion won him the high esteem of his friends, and his gentle unselfishness made him beloved in the family circle.
Besides his wife and two daughters, he leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, Milton of Homer, Nebr., and two granddaughters, Mrs. L. C. Jorgensen of Clarinda and Mrs. Bert Drees of Dubuque, and two great grandsons, James and Max Jorgensen.
The funeral services, conducted by Rev. C. L. Thomas, were held at the Peru M. E. church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Peru cemetery there to await the coming of our Lord and the general resurrection in the last day.
The many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
