June 14, 1972Florence Nolan Dies at 57
Mrs. John Nolan, former Winterset resident, died at her home in Guthrie Center last Friday evening, June 9th of a heart attack, at the age of 57 years. Mrs. Nolan, the former Florence Breen, made her home in Winterset, until her marriage to Mr. Nolan June 25, 1941.
The deceased was the daughter of the late Mike and Margaret Johnson Breen of Winterset, and attended the local schools. Following her graduation from high school she attended Darke University where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and received her elementary degree in education.
She first taught in Bayard, Iowa and then later in the Winterset schools.
Following her marriage to Mr. Nolan she lived at Guthrie Center all her married life, except for a couple of years, in Panora.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nolan is survived by four children: Dr. Shelia Stone of Sacramento, California, Mrs. Richard Poly of Dallas, Texas, Mark Nolan of Ames and William, who will be a senior next year at Harvard University. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Charles (Mae) Beeler of Winterset and three brothers; John Michael Breen of Knoxville, Robert E. Breen of Des Moines and Judge R. Michael Breen of Houston, Texas.
Rosary Services were held at the Beidelman Funeral home in Guthrie Center, Sunday night at 8 o'clock, and the final rites were held at St. Mary's church in Guthrie Center, Monday, June 12th at 10 a.m. with Father Schulte in charge. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery near there.
