William Bowers was born in Morgan county, Ohio, June 17, 1824. He was married to Jane York October 27, 1848. Three children were born to them, two of whom are now living. He moved from Morgan to Muskingum county, in 1849. His wife died on the 28th day of July, 1861. He was married a second time to Elizabeth Beard on the 16th day of May, 1863. This union was blessed with four children, three boys and one girl. The daughter and two sons are now living.

He moved with his family to Iowa in 1876, where he has made his home since that time. He was converted at the age of seventeen and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which he has since been a consistant member.

His death occured at his home in Earlham on Friday, February 2, 1900 at 10:30 a.m., in the 75th year of his age. Brother Bowers was a good man. By his industry and economy he had acquired a considerable amount of property.

His christian life was of a quiet type rather than of the impulsive and deeply emotional kind, yet it was deep and abiding. He filled several different offices in the church always acceptably.

He was an upright citizen, always interested in the important political issues that were before the people. He was a kind husband and father.

During his long tedious sickness, although his sufferings at times were intense, yet he manifested great fortitude and patience. He frequently gave expressions of entire resignation to the will of God as to the result of his disease, simply awaiting the call of God to come up higher.

He was laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery on Sunday morning at 11:00 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Shinn of Dexter. This endeth a good and useful life.

Fairview

Grandfather Bowers, of Earlham, died at his home February 2d, and was laid to rest at Fairview Sunday, February 4. Rev. Shinn of Dexter preached the funeral sermon. A small crowd attended the funeral services of Grandfather Bower. The majority of the good Fairview people were afraid to attend because the remains were brought from Earlham. We are sorry to state that some people are so easily frightened over little things. We now extend our greatest and heartfelt sympathy to both the bereaved families.
