Sherryl VanKooten, 53, of Winterset, died of cancer Dec. 27, 1995, at her home. Funeral services were held Dec. 30, 1995, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Don Frank officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery in Winterset.

She was born in Winterset on Jan. 14, 1942, to Harold and Ruby (Newbury) Bruett. She married Hank VanKooten on Sept. 16, 1961, in Winterset. She was a life-time resident of Madison County and was an apartment manager. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church in Peru and a past WIBC member.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Surviving relatives include her mother; her husband; a daughter, Tonja Porter and husband Bill of Peru; a son, Todd and friend Tracy of Winterset; a stepson, Dean and wife Vickie of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Darrell Bruett and wife Ellen of Albia; two sisters, Vicki Jo Mease and Judith Allen and husband Steve, all of Winterset; a grandson; 3 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter.
