Melissa Lyon, Van Meter

Melissa Anne Lyon, 17, of Van Meter, drowned in an auto accident at Badger Creek Lake on July 4, 1995. Funeral services were July 7 at St.John’s Catholic Church at Cumming. Burial was at the Van Meter Cemetery.

She was born in Des Moines on Dec. 16, 1977 to Gary and Mary Jude Lyon. She had lived most of her life in Van Meter and had just finished her junior year at Van Meter High School. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Cumming and a member of the Jefferson-Lee Boosters 4-H Club. She had been active in high school chorus, volleyball, basketball, softball and football.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather.

Surviving relatives include her parents; one brother, Nic and one sister, Ashley, both still at home; and grandparents, Leona Lyon of Van Meter, and Richard and Sheryl Webb of Cumming.
