Andrew G. Nelson, Lorimor

Andrew Grant Nelson, 76 of Lorimor died Aug. 31, 2001, of cardiac arrest at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 5) at the Peru United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142 both of Winterset.

Andrew Nelson was born Jan. 27, 1925, to Ray and Gladys Marie (Hann) Nelson of East Peru. He was a 1943 graduate of Winterset High School and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He had farmed in the East Peru area and also operated a restaurant in Lorimor. He moved to Ankeny in 1963 where he worked for John Deere. ON May 10, 1969, he married Cleo D. DeBolt in Ankeny. In 1989, they returned to the Nelson-Hann Century Farm in East Peru to reside. For the past six years he and his wife have lived in Lorimor during the summer and Tucson, Ariz., during the winter. Andrew was a member of Winterset I.O.O.F. Lodge 136, United Auto Workers in Ankeny and the Peru United Methodist Church. He also had operated a fast food stand, "Andy's" at the Iowa State Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and his first wife, M. Patricia Egy.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo of Lorimor; three sons, Dennis Nelson (wife Sara) of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Daniel Nelson (wife Joanne) of Stockton, Mo., and Jo Riley (wife Pam) of Des Moines; five daughters, Andrea Frease and Vickie Brooks (husband Bob), both of San Diego, Calif., Shirley Riley of Des Moines, Janice Cirksena (husband David) of Lorimor and Sharon Holden (husband Rob) of Olathe, Colo.; two sisters, Darlene Teachout (husband Jerry) of Piedmont, S.D., and Betty Dales (husband Loyd) of Indianola; 29 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Peru United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
