ALFRED NELSON DIED FRIDAY

Alfred Nelson, a long-time resident of the Winterset area, died Friday, June 13, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Nelson was a native of Denmark, where he was born May 12, 1889, a son of Hans and Carrie Thompson Neilsen. He was brought to America when he was 3 years of age.

His life was spent in farming. He lived 10 miles west of Winterset until 1918 then he moved to a farm north of town where he lived until 1939, moving to Des Moines in that year. He returned to Winterset in 1961. In recent years he had made his home with his daughters in Des Moines.

He was married at Elkhorn, Ia., on Feb. 23, 1917, to Ida K. Carlson. She preceded him in death Oct. 8, 1962.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Berthel Shank of Des Moines, Mrs. Wayne Smith of Truro, Mrs. James Woodward of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Glenn Ballard of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Chris Neilsen; and five half brothers and half sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Charles Updike, pastor of the Winterset Foursquare church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
