Death of Mable Bishop

Mrs. Mable Bishop who passed away at the home of her daughter in Sioux City was brought to Winterset Sunday for burial. Mrs. Bishop was the widow of the late Charles Bishop who preceded her in death a number of years ago.

Short services were held Sunday at the Tidrick funeral home. Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the services.

The body of Mrs. Bishop was accompanied here by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Woodhouse of Sioux City, a son-in-law, Carl Oleson of St. Louis and a sister, Miss Elsie Macomber of Hawarden.

DEATH CLAIMS BELOVED LADY

MRS. MABEL BISHOP SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS

Passed Away Last Friday at Home of Daughter in Sioux City. – Funeral Held Here Saturday

Mrs. Mabel Bishop, a former well-known resident of Hawarden, passed away at 4 o’clock last Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clifford Woodhouse in Sioux City, following a lingering illness. Although Mrs. Bishop had been failing in health for over two years she was bedfast but a week preceding her death. She contracted the flu and in her weakened condition she was unable to overcome the ravages of this disease.

Her remains were brought to Hawarden on Friday and funeral services were held at the Ross Funeral Home at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. Robt. Forrester of the Methodist church in charge. Her remains were taken to Winterset, Iowa, Sunday and laid beside her husband. Those who accompanied the body to Winterset were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Woodhouse of Sioux City, Carl Olson of St. Louis, Mo., and Miss Elsie Macomber of and Ralph Wheeler of Hawarden.

Mabel Valinda Macomber was born at Cascade, Iowa, Nov. 14, 1876, and passed away in Sioux City Feb. 20, 1931, at the age of 54 years, 3 months and 6 days. She spent her girlhood days at Cascade and on Aug. 15, 1900, she was united in marriage with Charles Bishop at Winterset, Iowa. They were married but five years when her husband was called by death, passing away Aug. 16, 1905. She was left with 2 small daughters and she then came to Hawarden and for a time lived with her mother, Mrs. Mary Macomber. Later she established a home of her own and raised her two children here.

For a number of years she was engaged in nursing and in many homes in the city the sick have received tender care for Mrs. Bishop. Two years ago last October she was taken ill with Laura pleurisy and for a month was cared for at the Hawarden hospital. When she had recovered sufficiently she went to her daughter, Mrs. Clifford Woodhouse in Sioux City, and made her home for a time. Later she made her home with her other daughter, Mrs. Carl Olson.

Last April she returned to Sioux City and since then she was tenderly cared for in the house of Mrs. Woodhouse. During her illness she suffered greatly at she bore her suffering with great fortitude. She was ever a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her daughters.

Besides her 2 daughters, Mrs. Carl Olson of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Clifford Woodhouse of Sioux City, she leaves 2 sisters, Miss Elsie Macomber of Hawarden, and Miss. Jessie Macomber of Portland, Ore., and also 3 grandchildren.
