MRS. EMMA NEAL DIED LAST FRIDAY

Life-Long Resident of St. Charles Community Was 83 Years Old

ST. CHARLES-Mrs. Emma Neal, life-long resident of this community, died Friday, April 10, at a nursing home in Des Moines. She was 83 years of age.

Mrs. Neal was the former Emma D. Stiffler, daughter of Harvey and Emily Stiffler. She was born Jan. 25, 1870, on a farm one and one-half miles east of St. Charles. She was married to George A. Neal on Feb. 19, 1899. His death occurred in 1938 on their forty-ninth wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Neal was active in the Methodist church here. She was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

She is survived by her seven children; Mrs. Margery I. Eastman of Seattle, Wash, Mrs. Iris E. Bell of Murray, Mrs. Geneva Pahre and Mrs. Gladys Black of Des Moines, Mrs. Edith Winter of Gardena, Calif., Mrs. Beatrice Bishop of St. Charles and Harvey C. Neal of Des Moines; 21 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and five sisters, Mrs. Nora Melvin, Mrs. Ollie Randall, Mrs. Carrie Gillette, Mrs. Esta Shedd and Mrs. Bernice Hamble, all of California.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Eldon Haworth. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
