Rex Jarvis Shannon, 75, of Prole died Aug. 8, 2000, of a heart attack at his home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. E. Dwayne Madsen officiating. Visitation was held Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset where the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Rex Shannon was born Feb. 27, 1925, in St. Marys to Willard and Ivy (Conard) Shannon. He married Bonnie Jenkins Oliphant on Feb. 2, 1980, in Norwalk. He was a century farmer and a lifetime resident of Madison County. He was a mechanic for 30 years with Dewey Ford in Des Moines. Rex attended St. Charles Parish in St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; a stepson, Fred Oliphant III of Des Moines; three daughters, Peggy Daugherty of Des Moines, Linda Corbin of San Diego, Calif., and Gerri Shannon of Dallas, Texas; a stepdaughter, Debbie Overholser (husband Tom) of Indianola; a sister, Doris White of Indianola; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
