MRS. L. A. NALEAN DIED ON MONDAY

Heart Attack Fatal at Her Farm Home North of Winterset

Mrs. Loren A. (Madge) Nalean passed away Monday, March 30 at 1 a.m. of a heart attack, at the NaLean farm north of Winterset, where she had resided since 1940. Mrs. NaLean had been in apparently good health, but a sudden attack caused her death at the age of 60 years.

She was the former Janet Margaret Johnson and was born at Princeton, Ill., May 15, 1892; here she grew up and received her formal education. She was married to Lawrence A. NaLean, also of Princeton May 15, 1911, and shortly thereafter they moved to Dallas Center, where he was engaged in horse buying and in farming.

In 1917, the NaLeans moved to Iowa Falls, where they entered the Ford automobile business and they continued in that business until his death in 1939. During those 28 years, they bought and sold 17 Ford garages and for five years operated 11 garages at once.

The NaLeans moved to Winterset in February 1921, having purchased the local Ford agency from Eugene Wilson. On October 28, 1925, they sold their business to Loyd E. Mason and moved to Chariton; in 1932 they moved to Corning where they were in the Ford business until Mr. NaLean passed away June 17, 1939. Mrs. NaLean was always active in her husband's business.

In 1940, Mrs. NaLean returned to Winterset, and since that time had resided on their farm north of Winterset.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Vera Murphy of Minneapolis, Minn., and her step-father, Harry NaLean of Winterset, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at the Richards Funeral home in Winterset this afternoon (Wednesday) by the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, and burial was beside her husband, Mr. NaLean, at the Rest Haven cemetery in West Des Moines.
