JAMES EARL BREEDING Dies

James Earl Breeding, life long resident of Madison county, died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. last Saturday evening, August 22nd, after a short illness. Mr. Breeding, who was 44 years of age, had started on a vacation trip, with his wife and son, the preceding Saturday, and became ill, at Newton, where they had planned to spend the night. He was taken to a Des Moines hospital where it was found that his appendix had ruptured. An operation was performed Wednesday morning, but complications had developed which caused his death.

The deceased was a son of J. W. and Fanny W. Breeding and was born on what is known as the Davis farm east of Winterset. When a small boy, the family moved to Union township where he grew to manhod. He was a member of Company A, 3rd Iowa Infantry, and served on the Mexican border in 1916. He came home and continued to operate his mother's farm until the fall of 1919 when he came to Winterset and operated what is known as the Club Cafe.

He was married to Miss Zelma Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Taylor, of Winterset, on December 24, 1919. They were the parents of one son, Junior, now 14 years of age.

He took an active interest in lodge work and was a member of Madison lodge, No. 136, I.O.O.F. and held 13 offices in the lodge during his membership. He was noble grand from Januay 1, 1930 to July 1, 1930 and was treasurer at the time of his death. He was also a member of Masonic lodge No. 43 having joined in 1919, and was a member of the Crown Rebekah lodge No. 360.

He joined the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, a number of years ago, and his funeral services were conducted there, Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, by the Rev. H.L. Olmstead.

At the time of Mr. Breeding's death, he was employed by the Iowa Power and Light company, here. He had made many friends in his work. Before entering this employment, he was the city marshall of Winterset.

He is survived by his wife, and son, his mother, Mrs. Fanny Breeding, and four brothers and two sisters: Sam of Napa, California; Fred of Kansas City, Mo.; Robert of Fort Madison, Charles, Mrs. Nellie McClure and Mrs. Rella Schoenenberger of Winterset.

Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
