Former Madison County Man Died August 7; 68 Years Of Age
Hollis V. Murphy, aged 68, former Madison county resident, died in Globe, Ariz., Monday, Aug. 7 following a short illness. Mr. Murphy had lived in Arizona for the past 20 years and was owner and operator of the hotel there at the time of his death.
The deceased, a son of Daniel and Sarah Murphy, was born in Jasper county, Iowa, May 4, 1882. He came here as a young man and was married to Miss Onie Barber March 29, 1904. They were the parents of two daughters; the wife and mother died Dec. 23, 1920. The Murphys first lived on a farm southeast of Winterset but they came to this town in 1919 and he operated a garage here until he moved to Arizona 20 years ago.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Ira Painter of Ogalalla, Neb., and Mrs. Rollin Smith of Monroe township. He also leaves two brothers and a sister. W. L. Murphy of York, Neb., and Francis and Flora Murphy of Scott township. He also leaves five grandchildren, Rhonda, Norman and Sheryl Smith of this county and Ronald and Pam Painter of Ogalalla.
The body of Mr. Murphy is being returned to Winterset and funeral services will be held at the Richards Funeral home, Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and burial will be made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
