DEATH OF MRS. DAVID GRIFFITH

Mrs. David A. Griffith, a resident of Madison county since 1870, died at the home of her son Robert, east of town, Saturday, August 6th at the age of eighty-four. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and were conducted by the Rev. W. C. Porter of the United Presbyterian church in the absence of the Methodist pastor, Rev. A. P. Keast.

Mrs. Griffith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller was born in Brown county, Ohio, December 27, 1847 and came to Jefferson county, Iowa in 1865. She married David A. Griffith March 4, 1866 and to this union seven children were born, five of whom are now living. They moved to Madison county in 1870 and made their home on a farm in Douglas township. They later moved to Winterset.

Mr. Griffith died January 9, 1916, and for five years a granddaughter, Hester Griffith, stayed with Mrs. Griffith. She then moved to the home of her son Robert where she lived until her death.

In addition to her son Robert she leaves a brother, Will Miller of Murray, two other sons, David of Des Moines and Jerome of Winterset and two daughters, Mrs. C. E. Wright of Winterset and Anna Van Scoy of Portland, Oregon. There are also nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist church of Winterset and for thirty-nine years belonged to the Worthington church.

Jack, Dale, Ray and Gyle Griffith and Archie and Jerome Wright, all grandchildren, served as pallbearers.

Hester Ellen Griffith

Hester Ellen Griffith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller was born in Brown county, Ohio, December 27, 1847. She came to Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1865. She married David A. Griffith March 4, 1866 and they homesteaded in Buena Vista county and came to Madison county in 1870. They made their home in Douglas township where they owned a farm and came to Winterset in 1909. Mr. Griffith died January 9, 1916.

A granddaughter, Hester Griffith stayed with her for five years, and then moved to the home of her son Robert, east of town. She died August 6, 1932, at the age of 84 years.

She is survived by one brother, five children, 19 grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Winterset and belonged to the Worthington church for thirty-nine years.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 8th at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist church. Rev. W. C. Porter conducted the services in the absence of the Methodist pastor, Rev. A. P. Keast.
