LaVerne James, Winterset

Leonard LaVerne James, 56, died April 2, 1993, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Adel on Tues. April 6 with the Rev. Tim Johnson and the Rev. David Weesner officiating. Burial was at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Dallas County.

Mr. James was born in Perry on March 3, 1937, to Leonard and Ruth (Snyder) James. He married Betty Pedersen in Des Moines on October 7, 1956. He moved to the area ten years ago and was a farmer and seed salesman for Cargill Hybrid Seeds. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Adel, the Scottish Rite-Consistery, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, the Madison County Farm Bureau, the Madison County Pork Producers and was a 4-H leader in Dallas County. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Adel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving relatives include his wife; a son, Steven James and wife Kathy of Altoona; a daughter, Sheryl Van Suyoc and husband Scott of Van Meter; a brother, Dean James of Bouton; two sisters, Carol Piatt of Dexter, and Doris Miller of Des Moines; and two grandchildren, Justin James of Newton, and Jennifer James of Altoona.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
