Clarence H. Bittinger of Winterset died at Madison county Memorial hospital Thursday, May 23, 1957, after a brief illness. He was 85 years of age.
Mr. Bittinger was a native of Garrett county, Maryland, where he was born February 29, 1872 a son of Simeon and Sarah Bittinger. As a young man he moved with his parents to Nebraska where he lived for several years. He was married on Jan. 11, 1903, at Geneva, Nebraska, to Clara Whittaker. They were parents of 13 children. One son,Glen, did in infancy, and another, Chauncey in 1952. They moved to Winterset in 1954.
Surviving are his wife; and 11 children: Mrs. Esther Lawrence of Niagara, Mo., Mrs. Matie Addyman of Cental City, Colo.; Mrs. Ione Schweitzer of Wattsburg, Pa., Lynn Bittinger of Louisville, Nebr., Mrs. Ruth Jungek of Chester, Nebr., Mrs. Ruby Wilkinson of Alexander, Nebr., Ervin, Richard, Clarence and Robert Bittinger of Winterset, and Donald Bittinger of the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services were held from the Anderson home for funerals Sunday, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
