MRS.THOMAS PHILLIPS Died Here Monday

Mrs. Thomas Phillips, a well known resident of the Peru community, died this Monday, May 13, 1957, at a Winterset nursing home. She was 77 years of age.

Mrs. Phillips was the former Nora E. Smith, daughter of Francis and Paulina Smith. She was born in Madison county March 1, 1880.

She is survived by her husband; and eight children: Mrs. Wayne Crow of Winterset, Cecil Phillips of Peru, John Phillips of St. Charles, Mrs. Lloyd Mitchell of Adel, Wallace Phillips of Springdale, Ark., Mrs. Herbert Carter of Pleasantville, Mrs. Josie Rosenbaugh of Des Moines, and Mrs. Jay LeGrande of Lorimor.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. A. R. Weed and the Rev. J.A.E. Cunningham. Burial was made in the Pleasant View cemetery.

SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. THOMAS PHILLIPS

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset for Mrs. Thomas Phillips, whose death had occurred May 13, at a nursing home here. A former pastor, the Rev. Arthur Weed of Tingley was in charge, assisted by the Rev. J. A. E. Cummingham of Peru. Burial was made in Pleasant View cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was 77 years of age. She was the former Nora E. Smith, daughter of Francis and Paulina Smith. She was born in Webster township and with the exception of 10 years on a farm near Afton in Union county, she was a life-long resident of Madison county. She was a member of Wesley County Chapel Methodist church here.

She was married to Thomas C. Phillips on Dec. 6, 1899 and they were parents of eight children, an infant daughter, Helen preceding her in death.

She leaves her husband; and the following children; Mrs. Wayne Crow of Winterset, John Phillips of St. Charles, Cecil Phillips of Peru, Iowa, Mrs. Lloyd Mitchell of Greenfield, Leslie Phillips of Adel, Wallace Phillips of Springdale, Ark., and Mrs. Herbert Carter of Pleasantville. She also leaves 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Josie Rosenbaugh of Des Moines and Mrs. Jay LeGrande of Lorimor.
